What are the benefits of using the Tele Aid "Search & Send" service?
"Search & Send" allows you to send destinations you've located using Google Maps or Yahoo Local Maps websites directly to your Mercedes-Benz vehicle navigation system. These can be retrieved by pressing your Tele Aid "i" button in your vehicle and storing them in your navigation unit for route calculations or for future use. |
How do I use the Tele Aid "Search & Send" service?
Using Tele Aid "Search & Send" is easy. Simply search for destinations on the Google Maps and/or Yahoo Local Maps websites. Once found, click on the "Send" button located on the bar just above the map and select "Send To Car". A pop-up window will appear prompting you to enter your email address associated with your Tele Aid account to send the destination to your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Click "Send". Upon sending the address to your vehicle's navigation system, you will receive a message notifying you that the message was sent successfully. Then, the next time you are in your Mercedes-Benz, with the ignition on, simply press the Tele Aid "i" button to complete the download of your address to your vehicle's navigation device. If you send more than one address, you will need to press the "i" button one time for each address you wish to download (Note: the addresses will download in the same order they were sent, e.g. first sent are the first downloaded). This will allow you to save each address to your navigation unit for calculating routes or for future use. Remember: If you have multiple Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped and activated for Tele Aid "Search & Send", each address you send will be retrievable by all of those vehicles associated with the e-mail address you specified in your Tele Aid account. |
Does Tele Aid "Search & Send" automatically send destinations to my vehicle?
"Search & Send" will give you the option of sending destinations you locate on Google Maps and Yahoo Local Maps websites to your vehicle. Then, once you are in your vehicle, you simply push the Tele Aid "i" button to download an address to your navigation device. |
Is there a limit to the number of destinations I can send or download to my vehicle?
You can download up to 50 destinations to your vehicle before destinations begin to be overwritten and are no longer retrievable. However, you can only store a limited number of destinations in your navigation system (the actual number may vary by model). If you do not delete some after you have reached a total of 50, the system will begin to automatically overwrite older location data in chronological order (first in, first out).
How do I edit or delete destinations after I have sent them to my vehicle?
Once the destination is downloaded to the car and the option to store it in memory is selected, you will be able to edit and delete entries using the standard address book menu options.
Will all of my destinations download simultaneously when I push the "i" button?
No. At this time, you will need to push the "i" button once for each destination you wish to download. This will allow you to save each individual destination to your on-board navigation system. Destinations are downloaded in your vehicle in the same order in which you sent them (e.g. first sent are the first downloaded).
I have two Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Can I download different destinations to different vehicles?
Yes. Please note that the e-mail address used to send destinations to a vehicle is the same as the one you have listed under the "Primary Subscriber" section of your Tele Aid account for that vehicle. If the e-mail address is listed on multiple Tele Aid accounts, then destinations will be sent to all vehicles associated with that e-mail address. If the e-mail addresses listed on the Tele Aid accounts are different for each vehicle, such as a spouse's personal e-mail address, your destinations will only be sent to the one vehicle associated with that e-mail address.
Once downloaded, can I store my destinations to use again in the future? If so, how?
Yes, a limited number of destinations may be saved in your navigation system. Once you have retrieved a destination by pressing the "i" button in your vehicle, an information pop-up box will be displayed on your navigation system prompting you to start navigation. If you select the 'yes' option, the navigation system will start route calculation and guidance. The destination will be automatically saved under 'last destinations'. If you select the 'no' option, the system will offer options to save the external destination (note: options may vary by navigation system).
How do I retrieve my destinations once I've sent them to my vehicle?
Once you have sent destinations to your vehicle using the Google Maps or Yahoo Local Maps websites, you simply press the Tele Aid "i" button in your vehicle to download an address to your navigation unit. If you send multiple destinations to your vehicle, you will need to press the "i" button once for each address you need to download. This will allow you to save each address to your unit for calculating routes or for future use.
Do I need to be in my car to retrieve my destinations and does the ignition need to be on?
Yes. To download destinations to your vehicle, you will need to be in your vehicle (in a safe place out of the way of traffic and with the parking brake on), the ignition must be on and you will need to press the Tele Aid "i" button. However, to send destinations from a website, there is no need for your vehicle to be on.
Can I choose to retrieve my destinations anywhere, anytime?
As with all Tele Aid services, "Search & Send" service is available anywhere cellular and GPS services are available and working. Destinations will be stored in the Tele Aid system for seven days. At sometime during this period, you must be in your vehicle with the ignition on and push the "i" button to download your destinations. If you do not perform this function within seven days of having sent the destination(s), the location information will be deleted from the system. |
How accurate is the route guidance if I use the destination that is sent to the vehicle?
Destinations are sent to the vehicle as latitude/longitude coordinates and are typically accurate to less than a meter. The route guidance of your on-board navigation system will guide you to that destination with the highest possible accuracy. The navigation system will also try to reverse geo-code a destination as accurately as possible. However, due to variances in the map matching algorithms as well as the actual map data used on-board and off-board, the resulting street number that is displayed may not always be completely accurate.
